Aphonic Remnants
I recall from my Greek-Cypriot village childhood the endless drinking of coffee, followed by the adults' obsessive habit of foretelling the future by interpreting the fascinating configurations left in the cups by the coffee-grounds.
The combination of this memory with the recent unearthing, in our house, of the remnants of Victorian varnish of a similar coffee-colour, sparked the inspiration for these new works.
The technique I am using creates an intriguing quality akin to that seen in the dying embers of a fire, or in clouds, when one can take the time to gaze and invent images and scenarios, when one can take the time to gaze and invent images and scenarios from them.
